Guest Blog Post - Author KT Grant on "50 Shades of Pink"
“I knew that I couldn’t lie beside her, without wanting to touch her. I couldn’t have felt her breath come upon my mouth, without wanting to kiss her. And I couldn’t have kissed her, without wanting to save her.”
The quote above is from Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, published in 2002 and a Man Booker Prize Nominee. Fingersmith is historical fiction, but also a lesbian romance. Sarah Waters is one of the most well-known authors currently writing lesbian fiction.
That short quote helped me write what would become Fifty Shades of Pink, my latest release from Riverdale Avenue Books. I imagined a woman, who had yet to experience a passionate love affair, seeking a woman who would take her on a sexual odyssey. The main protagonist, Lindsay Pinke (yes, her last name is a take on the title) is an independent woman, working in Manhattan, but seeks excitement, which she looks for in her career. She’s also turning twenty-five, which for many is considered can adult. But Lindsay doesn’t have many life experiences and is still maturing. She’s ready to take some chances, and when she’s offered a look into Victoria Nox’s world, she accepts.
Victoria is only a few years old than Lindsay, but much more mature because of her past. Victoria has an old soul because she lost her parents in an airplane crash at the age of thirteen. By then she was trying to understand her growing attraction to the same sex. Because she was vulnerable at the time, she made a few mistakes, which has tormented her for over a decade. When Lindsay enters her life, Victoria is suspicious of this young woman for reasons explained in the novel. She feels Lindsay may her ultimate downfall. But because Lindsay is a genuinely kind person, Victoria can’t help but soak up her kindness, although she forces Lindsay to make some tough decisions that could not only damage her budding career as a writer, but put her in harm’s way.
50 Shades of Pink is a contemporary romance with an erotic vibe that also includes a mystery waiting to be unraveled. I’ve taken Lindsay and Victoria on a journey together that engages the reader to put all the pieces together as many different “shades” of Victoria’s past are revealed.

Blurb: Living in Manhattan and working at Virago, one of the most successful women’s magazines in the nation is a dream come true for Lindsay Pinke. After five years of being overworked and underpaid in the research department, she’s finally noticed by Colette Duarte, the provocative executive editor of the magazine. She offers Lindsay the coveted role as her personal assistant, but first she must prove she’s worthy of the position. Lindsay must interview Victoria Nox, the elusive and extremely private CEO of Nox Media Holdings. If Lindsay succeeds, Colette promises her great things for her publishing career. If Lindsay fails, her chance as a respected writer will be cut short.
A chance meeting with Victoria at a high class function puts into motion a series of events that leaves Lindsay blindsided by her strong physical reaction to the magnetic but foreboding woman. When Lindsay unwittingly falls into Victoria’s world of dark temptations and complex entanglements, she leans the shocking truth Victoria hides about Colette that rocks Lindsay to her very core.
Now that Lindsay has become a balm on Victoria’s soul, is she strong enough to help Victoria confront her shameful past, and stop one woman’s sick games once and for all?
